The Artist

I am a primarily self-taught artist specialising in oil painting. My paintings mostly depict themes surrounding disabilities, chronic illnesses, physical pain and mental health. I have been diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia, ulcerative colitis, neuropathic orofacial related dysesthesia, Blepharitis, muscle tension dysphonia, anxiety and depression. My work often conveys my struggles with these conditions. Even though my experiences are unique, I believe everyone can relate to these concepts of suffering and the emotions that accompany life. I often use animals to personify these reoccurring motifs within my work.

Artist Statement

I have been living with an invisible disability and several chronic illnesses since childhood. Every day is a constant struggle yet to the average person my suffering is unknown. To the general public I appear as a functioning adult however, I heavily rely on the help of my assistance dog and family to survive.  Through this painting I wanted to convey my admiration and deep personal connection with my assistance dog, Hugo.
