The Artist

Justine Martin’s successful corporate life was turned upside down in 2011 when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Since then, she has battled three cancers and overcome a long list of serious medical conditions. Rather than allowing her hardship to overcome her, she has used it as a platform to inspire and make a difference in the lives of others.

Justine is an artist, teacher, author, resilience coach and speaker. She uses her own experiences of living with a disability to encourage others to take steps towards a positive future of their own by finding hope, overcoming adversity, and building resilience. Speaking from the heart, connecting with many audiences through her varied background in corporate, sales, art, volunteer work, and experiencing illness.

Justine created art wellness classes for other disabled people, to create positivity in their lives. Justine loves to create bright fun paintings featuring animals, and classic black and white pieces. www.juztart.com.au

Artist Statement

I created this self portrait More than Is Seen to show that there is a lot more to me than my looks. to make people aware of hidden disabilities.

I asked my friends on Facebook to describe me in one word. They came up to 119 different words.  These are written in the left side of my hair.

The right side of my hair are all my MS symptoms and what i go through on a daily bases.

I choose to use the technique Stippling, to let the black and white speak for itself.
