I’m a 29 year old Autistic woman from East Gippsland. These last 5 years I’ve been homeless due to poverty induced by disability discrimination and a heartless government process that prevented me from accessing the disability support pension for around 8 years. I have found it hard to have a consistent arts practice like I used too prior to homelessness but I just bought a house with my mum so I’m looking forward to settling down and engaging in some of my creative pursuits once more.
This particular piece of digital art was created to help me process the feelings I had around setting boundaries with loved ones and changing interaction patterns with certain people recently.
It was an act of self stimulation or stimming as it’s called in the Autistic community to help me regulate my emotional response. As an Autistic person I have often found communicating boundaries a challenge but in this instance I decided to take the lead and take the power back.
I’ve always been an artist an work across many mediums including weaving, drawing, photography, painting and digital art.
