Mandy is an artist of Yamatji heritage, born with an intellectual disability and later in life identified with having Autism. Mandy's works are typically alive with energy and humour. A natural colourist and her line work is full of confidence, gesture and emotion. Mandy is an award winning artist. Her works have been acquired by the Art Gallery of WA and City of Stirling. She was selected for Cottesloe Sculpture by the Sea 2020 and has twice been selected for the Joondalup Invitational Art Prize.
For the past 10 years, mystical bush creatures and beloved family pets have featured predominantly in Mandy's work. This is her first attempt at a self portrait. In this painting, she has captured herself wearing her beloved headphones. Mandy does not go anywhere without her OG Walkman cassette player. She has been using it since the 90's. These days it's held together with gaffer tape and cassettes are becoming harder to find at garage sales. But Mandy does not like change and will not upgrade. Her headphones and Walkman have been a part of her identify since childhood, and will most likely remain so.
