The Artist

I live in the beautiful Adelaide Hills with my Golden Retriever 'Jai',  we walk every day. He loves to stop and chat to people and brings smiles to most. I understand what living with a disability is like and how difficult it is to get people to understand what you go through from day to day. It isnt just about the physical pain but also the emotional pain. I try to exhibit in SALA (South Australian Living Artists) each year and also at the local pub as to generate conversation about the Arts. I lost my partner to Cancer last year so Jai and I have been very sad.

Artist Statement

I am an amateur artist with a disability, I use my art to help sort through confusing emotions and perhaps hurtful feelings. It helps me to concentrate but express myself in regards to grief, loneliness and anxiety.

I use my journal to practice little drawings then transfer them to canvas using acrylic paint. I love painting faces as you can do two that never look the same. They are intriguing and sensual and usually colorful. A touch of collage brings the look of tears down her face. These pages I ripped from an old book I read so are also relevant. I like to mix my mediums up by also using ink, charcoal and water color pencils. I suffer from chronic pain so the faces looking back at the viewer are wondering if life should be so hard for some people and not for others.
